Here is a lovely Stromatolite concretion, from sometime in the PreCambrian, at least 600 million years old, or older. Possibly billions of years. This one has superb natural layering, as you can see in the photos. They are far older than the earliest dinosaur.  From Saf Saf, Morocco.
This current specimen is about 3.1 inches across, and it weighs 1 lb. 2.3 oz.
Stromatolites are "homes" made by ancient microbes called cyanobacteria that secrete a sticky substance that holds the minerals together in layers. They are called "blue-green algae" though they are really tiny bacteria that use photosynthesis for fuel. They have been around well over 3 billion years, and a few still survive today.
There is no paint or restoration.  Please always handle with care.
With this type of specimen, a tiny amount of it may break off in shipping, but not enough to alter the beauty of the piece. I wrap it very carefully in multiple layers of wrap. If that is not acceptable to you, please do not order.

We are happy to enclose a COA (Certificate of Authenticity).  Some words of caution about COA’s: Do not let them become a substitute for learning about the specimens. We have been working with fossils and minerals for many years, and we have seen hundreds of very nice-looking COA’s, some that are wrong, mis-describing a specimen. In addition, the person selling the item is often the one who writes the COA (potential conflict of interest). Finally, a COA, without a photo of the exact specimen on the COA itself,  is worthless, as it can later be placed next to any other fossil or mineral.  We suggest that in addition to relying on a COA, that people read and study the subject.
