Lightning strikes the sand long ago in Morocco. The intense heat from the lightning, (over 3000 degrees f ), melts the sand in its penetrating path and it quickly cools into a natural hollow glass tube called a FULGURITE. They are sometimes referred to as
petrified lightning.
Of course, along with lightning, fulgurites occur all over the world. The color of fulgurites varies depending on the composition of the sand they formed in. These from Morocco have a brownish color. Fulgurites can have deep penetrations, sometimes appearing up to 15 meters (49 ft) below the lightning-struck surface. They are typically found in sections measuring only a few inches long.
In southern Morocco, the annual winds shift the sand dunes and reveal protruding sections of the fulgurites, which are sifted from the sand using screens. Because the fulgurites from this location formed long ago, the hollow tubes are most often partly impacted with the hardened sand.  This group has all been checked for hollow centers allowing air to pass through the length of the specimen.
These fulgurites were obtained directly from the person, who lives in Morocco and collects them himself. I was fortunate enough to obtain most of the fulgurites he collected during 2008 - 2015.
