For many this is simply the best and most beautiful fighter aircraft of WWII. The Spitfire flew from the very first days of WWII and right up to the very last! More Spitfires were built than any other British combat aircraft before, during or since WWII... 20,341 in total. Designed by Reginald Mitchell of Supermarine Ltd., it entered service with the RAF in the summer of 1938. This King & Country Spitfire Mk.l/ll is representative of those machines that flew during the Battle of Britain. It’s also King & Country’s most popular ‘warbird’ ever and joins a select group of other Spitfires Mk.l/ll’s that have been produced by King & Country over the years. This particular ‘Spit’ is in the markings of No. 610 Squadron ‘County of Chester’ Royal Auxiliary Air Force and comes complete with a sitting pilot figure in the cockpit.

The Battle of Britain was a military campaign of the Second World War, in which the Royal Air Force (RAF) and the Fleet Air Arm of the Royal Navy defended the United Kingdom against large-scale attacks by Germany's air force, the Luftwaffe. The Battle of Britain has been described as the first major military campaign fought entirely by air forces of the opposing countries. British historians officially recognize the battle's duration as being from 10 July through 31 October 1940, which overlaps the period of large-scale night attacks during the period known as "the Blitz" that lasted from 7 September 1940 to 11 May 1941.

Note: Although we have not yet visited Arnhem... "A Bridge to Far" or any of the historical areas or battlefields in the Netherlands or Germany, we have used a self-guided, GPS supported itinerary to visit the Cotentin
Peninsula
area on a number of
occasions, including All Five of the Landing Beaches and many of the historic museums and German bunkers in the Normandy countryside. In addition we have also used the same format to travel to
Bastogne, and the pastoral farms, and wooded area of the Ardennes, including the Baugnez '44 Museum, the site of the Malmedy Massacre, and the still existing foxholes of the 502nd and 506th P.I.R. We have found both the French and Belgian people, in Normandy and Bastogne, to be very friendly and still grateful to the Allies, especially the American forces, for their liberation… despite the huge loss of life and property damage suffered by the French and Belgian civilians. In addition, should you want to visit the area in and around Normandy or Bastogne, we are willing to share our experiences or trip itinerary with you, which may help to make your travel through the areas easier and perhaps make the historical experience more valuable.
