This is the 2001 CTS casting of the Marx Civil War Medical Wagon that appears in the large 1961 Centennial sets that also included new Centennial figures. The Centennial figures (with medical-related figures) appeared in many subsequent sets, but the medical field wagon was unique to this Civil War. The medical wagon- slightly altered, does appear in the non- Civil War Battle of Little Big Horn set...I wouldn't call it "rare" by any means, but it is certainly one of the more uncommon Civil War playset pieces. Complete vintage original medical wagons are listed often enough, but the prices for them have risen well above what you should pay for this set.
If you have to have a vintage original set- keep on looking- they are out there, but if a recast is OK as a primary piece or as second example for your display, you won't do
better than the CTS version (2001). In addition to the original Marx accessories, this version has an operating, drop-down tailgate and an alternate canopy with roll-up sides for a different look than the original. Pardon my pictures of the unopened, bagged pieces- it was very, very tempting to open them up, but I will leave that to you. The table with dish, scissors and bandages, the rolled-up gurney, the wagon seat and the rest all appear to be there. The harness rig is unbroken and the two horses are (matched) are marked CTS/2001.
