Historical Note:
During the Devonian period of the Paleozoic Era, about 380 million years ago, the Moroccan Sahara was the floor of a large prehistoric ocean. Because of different natural factors, fish, plants and other ancient marine fossils animals were discovered after the withdrawal of the sea. The southeastern area of the Moroccan Sahara is now a rich source of very old and various fossils.
Orthoceras
,
meaning “Straight Horn”, was a nautiloid cephalopod that lived 350-400 million years ago. Its name refers to the characteristic long, straight, conical shell these marine animals possessed.
